3 Techniques to Quiet Your Mind and Get to Sleep

Sleep is essential. You can’t get up and have a productive day when you’re exhausted.

But sometimes, with everything going on in life, your mind won’t cooperate at night. Instead of quieting down when you snuggle into your nice warm bed, your thoughts begin to wander.

Before you know it, hours have flown by and you’re desperate for sleep. You know you’re going to be tired tomorrow, and that realization creates even more anxiety. It’s a vicious cycle that can lead to severe sleep deprivation.

If your mind is causing you to stay awake too late, there is hope.

While we don’t have a magic off-button that’ll make your brain slow down for the evening, we do have some tips to help you settle your thoughts so you can drift off to sleep more easily. Here are our top three techniques.

1. Unplug

Scrolling social media feeds on your cell phone might seem relaxing, but it can actually make it harder for you to fall asleep. Studies have shown the blue light emitted from screens decreases melatonin production. Additionally, smartphones provide one distraction after another, tempting you to keep scrolling until way past bedtime.

To help quiet your mind, consider unplugging completely about an hour before you head to bed. You can shut off your devices and get them charging in another room. Then you can use this time to unwind, so you can be completely relaxed by bedtime.

2. Do a Brain Dump

If your mind is overwhelmed with all of the things you need to do, a brain dump can help. It’ll only take you a few minutes, but when you’re finished, your brain will be ready to rest.

To complete this activity, you’ll need a piece of paper, a pen, and a timer. Once you’re ready, sit down in a comfortable place and set your timer for five minutes.

Now, begin writing down every single thought that comes to mind. You can write down:

  • Tasks you need to put on your to-do list for tomorrow
  • Meal plans you have in mind
  • Worries from the day
  • Friends you want to connect with
  • Books you want to read

Anything that you’re thinking about, write it down. Write freely, letting your brain empty its contents onto the piece of paper.

When your timer beeps, stop writing. Now that your thoughts are written down, you can let them go. They no longer need to keep you up at night.

3. Enjoy a Cup of Bedtime Tea

There’s nothing quite like an aromatic mug of tea to help your brain enter rest mode. If you’re ready to say good-bye to your stress-induced insomnia, give Teamotions Enjoy Rest tea a try.

This special blend contains ashwagandha and chamomile to help reduce your stress so you can get to sleep. Along with calming ingredients, this tea features a delicious apple cinnamon flavor, making it easy to develop a tasty tea-drinking habit.

As you drink your tea, don’t rush the experience. Take time to breathe deeply and take in the aroma. Let peaceful thoughts fill your brain. By the time your cup is empty, you’ll be ready to crawl into bed and enjoy some sweet dreams.

Get Some Rest

These techniques can help you calm your mind and prepare for rest. For even better results, combine all three into a relaxing bedtime routine. Doing the same things each night will help you train your mind to slow down and rest at bedtime.

To help you make better sleep a reality, make sure you pick up some Enjoy Rest tea. Your brain will thank you.
